My first reaction to “RARE SPECIES” was to respond with the form of name calling the strip incorporated. After some thought, I decided not to lower myself to that level unnecessarily.
Liberals claim to be tolerant but they don’t display the ability to be tolerant of ANYONE that has a different view. Do you find it strange that, as intolerant conservative, I would be willing to discuss our differences in civil discourse given the chance?
I don’t subscribe to the RGJ because of my experience trying to communicate with Corry Farley (sp?). Picking up the waiting room copy and finding “RARE SPECIES” confirms the wisdom of that decision.
Jack,
First off, my comic is not printed in the RGJ, it is printed in the Reno News & Review and the Tuscon Weekly. Any disparaging remarks towards the paper that prints my comics should be adjusted accordingly. Neither one of these papers is subscription based, so you can continue to enjoy my comic in the free Alternative Weeklies or free online, without supporting my narrow minded sense of humor, financially.
Second off (secondly), if you are one of the tolerant Conservative Republicans mentioned in my comic who dislikes Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck, I tip my hat to you, sir. I didn’t say that they don’t exist, just that they are “RARE.” They are about as rare as a liberal who thinks Al Franken should shut his pie hole. You could count me in that camp (if you want to categorize me as liberal).
Comics, in general, have to resort to broad generalizations to get the joke across. There is no room in three panels for a lively debate, they are meant for a giggle or chuckle. Of course, when political commentary is involved I’m probably only going to garner that chuckle from half the population. The support behind sideshow clowns like Palin and Beck are grating on my last nerve. I can’t help but target the people who support them, and honor the people who see them for what they are… fill in the blank.
